Course Description: The purpose of this online chiropractic course is to educate the attendee on management of the chronic pain patient utilizing in part, the Flag system, management algorithms, and working with allied health care providers when needed.

  • Definition of Chronic pain
  • Discussion of Red and Yellow Flags: Subjective vs. Objective assessment methods.
    • The Flag System
    • Red Flags
    • Yellow Flags
      • Subjective detection methods
      • Objective detection methods
  • Outcome assessment tool options for detecting Red & Yellow Flags
  • Assessment & Treatment Algorithms – The Diagnosis-based Clinical Decision Rule (DBCDR)
  • OBJECTIVE Assessment of Yellow Flags:  Waddell Non-organic Signs (low back & cervical)
  • MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES: Treatment Algorithm;
    • Special management considerations:
      • Co-management with allied health care providers
      • Special self-help strategies (Resources, Apps, etc.)
  • Brain changes when acute pain becomes chronic – Study review
  • Modulating brain changes with manual therapy in patients with cLBP
  • Return to work strategies

Learning Objectives:

  • Outline pain management strategies and treatment protocols.
  • Discuss brain changes through manual therapy

  • Diagram proper return to work strategies
