Chiropractic Online Education Guidelines

To renew a license, a Florida chiropractic physician must complete at least 40 contact classroom hours during the preceding two years. Only hours earned at Board-approved continuing education courses (or that otherwise comply with the rule) are acceptable.

Licenses renew biennially, with the biennium ending March 31 of each even-numbered year. A "contact classroom hour" means 50 minutes of instruction, delivered either in person or through online attendance courses. No course may be repeated for credit within the same biennium.

Florida specifies several subject areas that must be satisfied inside the 40-hour total:

The remaining 27 hours are general/elective clinical continuing education. Chiropractic physicians certified in acupuncture must also complete 4 acupuncture hours (2 in safety and risk management, 2 in technique) — obtained as part of the 40, not in addition to it.

Under Rule 64B2-13.0045, each licensee must complete a Board-approved course on HIV/AIDS of at least one classroom hour no later than first licensure renewal. This is a one-time obligation, not a per-biennium one, it may be satisfied by an online attendance course, and the hour counts toward the 40-hour total. Do not confuse it with the 2-hour medical errors course, which is required every renewal.

All 40 hours may be earned online. Effective November 17, 2021, the Board updated its continuing education rule to permit any modality for all continuing education hours — a licensee may elect to obtain all required hours through online attendance courses.

Chiropractic physicians renewing for the first time carry additional obligations under Rule 64B2-13.007. During the first biennium (or within 24 months of initial licensure, whichever ends later), practitioners must attend one full day at a Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine meeting at which disciplinary hearings are conducted. In-person attendance is required — the temporary virtual-attendance allowance ended with the biennium that closed March 31, 2022.

First-time renewers must also complete 6 hours of record keeping/documentation and coding, 2 hours of ethics and boundaries, and the 2-hour medical errors course — plus the one-time HIV/AIDS hour. Attendance certificates must be uploaded to the Department's designated tracking system.

Florida uses an electronic CE tracking system (CE Broker). The Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance reviews your continuing education records in that system at the time of renewal — automatically. If your records are complete, renewal proceeds without interruption; if they are not, you will be prompted to enter your remaining hours before you can finish renewing.
