Dysautonomia rarely presents as dysautonomia. It arrives as fatigue that rest does not fix, a heart rate that will not settle, lightheadedness on standing, digestion that has stopped cooperating — a scatter of complaints that looks like several problems until you recognise it as one system failing to regulate.
This two-hour course covers dysautonomia from anatomy to appointment. Where Neurology CE Hours Count — State Rules Worth Knowing
Clinical neurology coursework is clinical subject matter — assessment, diagnosis and case management — which is exactly what several state boards ask for. In Iowa, these hours serve the 36-hour clinical case-management minimum; in Rhode Island, they address the 50-of-60 clinical requirement; and in Vermont — where practice-building coursework earns nothing — patient-care education like this counts fully under the clinical-focus rule.

What is dysautonomia?
A failure of autonomic regulation rather than a single disease — the system that runs heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, temperature and sweating stops matching its output to demand. The course opens on defining the problem and its prevalence, because the presentations are diffuse enough that dysautonomia is routinely missed or attributed elsewhere.
How is this different from Neurology 232 on the IML?
Different halves of the same system. 232 works the intermediolateral cell column — the sympathetic output column, its anatomy and its vasomotor consequences. 239 takes the regulatory picture as a whole, with the vagal effect, regulation and tone, and the descending influence of the prefrontal cortex and the PMRF. 232 is the outflow; 239 is the control.
What is the “dual system approach”?
The framing the course uses throughout: sympathetic and parasympathetic are not a see-saw where suppressing one raises the other, but two systems with their own tone and their own regulation. Understanding them as a pair with independent control is what makes the clinical implications tractable.
What do the PFC and PMRF have to do with autonomic function?
They sit above it. The prefrontal cortex and the pontomedullary reticular formation exert descending influence on autonomic tone, which is why autonomic presentations can originate well above the segments where they are felt. The course covers their role and its implications.
Can a chiropractor treat dysautonomia?
A chiropractor can recognise it, reason about it and manage the part that falls within scope — and should know when a presentation needs medical workup instead. Dysautonomia has causes ranging from benign to serious, so the course covers the vital considerations in clinical handling alongside the anatomy and physiology.
