Orthopedics 222: Dropped Head Syndrome, Cervical Myelopathy, and ALS is a 2-hour online chiropractic CE course designed to help chiropractors recognize complex cervical spine and neurologic presentations that may require advanced clinical reasoning, careful documentation, and timely referral.
Dropped head syndrome can present as difficulty holding the head upright, forward-flexed posture, neck extensor weakness, fatigue, or a chin-on-chest appearance. Because similar presentations may overlap with cervical myelopathy, motor neuron disease, neuromuscular disorders, spinal cord compression, and other serious conditions, the clinical goal is not just identification. The goal is to build a structured neuro-orthopedic evaluation strategy that helps distinguish mechanical, neurologic, and systemic contributors.
This course emphasizes practical examination thinking for chiropractic practice: gait changes, reflex findings, hand dexterity changes, upper motor neuron signs, progressive weakness, symptom behavior, history patterns, imaging considerations, and referral triggers.
Michael Hall, DC, FIACN teaches this orthopedics course with emphasis on clinical pattern recognition, neuro-orthopedic examination, cervical spine red flags, and evidence-informed decision-making for chiropractors managing complex spine and neurologic presentations.
