How the SCN Re-Registration Cycle Works

Netherlands Requirements — Tap to Expand
The 160-Point Nascholing Requirement

A regular SCN registration period runs five years. During that period the registered chiropractor must earn 160 accredited nascholing (continuing education) points, where each accredited point equals one hour of education — an average of roughly 32 hours per year. Accreditation conditions are set out in the SCN re-registration and accreditation regulations (reglement).

Alongside the education requirement, re-registration requires providing a minimum of eight hours of patient-related chiropractic care per week.

PE-online — Tracking & Your Dossier

Completed education is entered by the chiropractor, with supporting certificates, into PE-online — the Dutch CPD tracking application. The chiropractor is personally responsible for keeping the dossier accurate and complete.

Three months before the registration period ends, the dossier can be submitted in PE-online with the re-registration request. If the point total and practice-hours requirements are met, the SCN reviews the dossier and processes re-registration for a new five-year period. The SCN also conducts a practice visitatie every five years as part of quality review.

Course Eligibility — What SCN Looks For

SCN course criteria include: content related to chiropractic or healthcare, a participant entry level of at least a completed higher professional (hbo) health education, and a personalized certificate of participation. Course providers can be authorized within PE-online to submit offerings for accreditation points.

Before purchasing any course for SCN points, confirm its eligibility against the current SCN reglement or with the SCN directly. CCEDseminars issues an instant personalized completion certificate for every course, suitable for your PE-online dossier entry where the course qualifies.

Regulation & Professional Bodies in the Netherlands

The title “chiropractor” is currently not legally protected in the Netherlands — there is no government licensing board. Quality oversight is private: the SCN register is the leading quality mark, and Dutch health insurers generally key reimbursement to registration.

Professional associations are the NCA (Nederlandse Chiropractoren Associatie, the oldest), DCF, and CCA. The SNRC (Nationaal Register van Chiropractoren) operates a separate national register on five-year approval cycles. Most Dutch chiropractors train abroad at ECCE/CCEI-accredited programs, so English-language continuing education is standard in this market.

Netherlands chiropractic CE information on this page is based on the most current published SCN requirements. Requirements change from time to time; Netherlands chiropractors are ultimately responsible for staying current with the SCN re-registration and accreditation regulations. Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions — Tap to Expand
How many CE hours do Netherlands chiropractors need?
Chiropractors registered in the SCN quality register (Stichting Chiropractie Nederland) must earn 160 accredited nascholing points per five-year re-registration period. One accredited point equals one hour of education — an average of about 32 hours per year. Registrants must also provide a minimum of eight hours of patient-related care per week.
Is chiropractic a regulated profession in the Netherlands?
The title chiropractor is not legally protected in the Netherlands. Quality oversight is private: the SCN maintains the leading quality register, with five-year re-registration and practice visitation cycles, and Dutch health insurers generally key reimbursement to registration. The professional associations are the NCA, DCF, and CCA, and the SNRC operates a separate national register.
How is Netherlands chiropractic CE tracked?
Through PE-online, the Dutch CPD tracking application. Each registered chiropractor enters their own completed nascholing, with supporting certificates, into their PE-online dossier and is personally responsible for its accuracy. Three months before the five-year registration period ends, the dossier is submitted with the re-registration request.
Can Netherlands chiropractors use online CE courses?
SCN accreditation criteria focus on course substance and documentation: content related to chiropractic or healthcare, an entry level of a completed higher professional health education, and a personalized certificate of participation. Netherlands chiropractors should confirm point eligibility for a specific course against the SCN re-registration and accreditation regulations before purchase. CCEDseminars issues an instant personalized certificate on completion of every course.
Does CCEDseminars report CE to the SCN automatically?
No. There is no automatic reporting into PE-online; Netherlands chiropractors self-enter completed education with certificates into their own PE-online dossier. CCEDseminars provides the personalized completion certificate needed for that entry immediately after each course.
