Delaware chiropractors must complete 24 hours of approved continuing education during each biennial licensure period. Biennial licenses terminate on June 30 of each even-numbered year, so the period runs July 1 of an even year through June 30 two years later.
Completion of the required hours is a prerequisite for renewal — the deadline for completing CE is the license renewal deadline itself. Hours must be completed within the licensure period to which they apply, and the same course may not be counted more than once in a single period.
At least 3 of the 24 credit hours must contain ethics, recordkeeping, or risk management content.
Delaware groups these three subjects together rather than requiring a set number in each, so a single qualifying course — or a combination — can satisfy the 3-hour minimum. Documentation and coding compliance, HIPAA, professional boundaries, and malpractice-risk coursework all speak to this requirement. Confirm the subject label on your certificate matches how you intend to apply the hours.
This is the provision most often summarized incorrectly elsewhere, and it works in your favor if you plan around it. Delaware treats live online and recorded/on-demand education very differently:
Live & synchronous — no cap.
CE may be taken online or by home study, including video- or tele-conference, so long as the teaching is live and the interaction between instructor and licensee is interactive and synchronous. Hours delivered this way are not limited.
Asynchronous — 12 hours maximum.
Asynchronous education, including video replay and self-paced online courses, is limited to 12 hours per renewal period — half the requirement.
The practical takeaway: if you complete all 24 hours as self-paced on-demand coursework, only 12 will count. Plan at least 12 hours through live, interactive webinars — or complete the whole requirement that way, which Delaware permits.
Courses co-sponsored by accredited chiropractic colleges, or by national or state chiropractic organizations, are presumptively approved so long as the course relates to the field of chiropractic. Those sponsors do not file individual course-approval forms.
Courses that fall outside that presumption must be approved by the Board before the renewal application deadline. Carryover. Only 6 CE hours may be carried over into a subsequent licensure period. Everything beyond that must be earned inside the period it counts toward.
New licensees. Chiropractors licensed part-way through a period have prorated hours based on the date the license was issued — see Section 2.2 of the Board's Rules and Regulations, or contact the Board to confirm your figure.
Records and audit. Verification is by attestation at renewal in DELPROS — do not upload documentation unless you are notified of an audit. Retain your CE attendance documentation for at least 2 years after the renewal deadline. The Board performs random audits, and selected licensees must produce their log and attendance verification.
