Every Minnesota Doctor of Chiropractic must annually obtain 20 units of MBCE-approved continuing education to remain eligible for an active license — of which 3 units must be in radiographic or advanced imaging safety, technique or interpretation, and 1 unit must be in professional boundaries in the clinical setting — completed by December 31 under the Minnesota Board of Chiropractic Examiners (Minn. R. 2500.1200). Courses must come from MBCE-approved sponsors or be PACE approved, and only certificates carrying an MBCE course number or a PACE logo are accepted. Legal attestation of completed continuing education is a required part of the renewal application. Every Minnesota Doctor of Chiropractic must annually obtain 20 units of MBCE-approved continuing education to remain eligible for an active license. Minnesota runs a calendar-year cycle: continuing education must be completed by December 31, and renewal is completed online by midnight CST that day.
Within your first year, there is relief: no continuing education units are required during the calendar year in which you are initially licensed. The same applies to units required for a registration during the calendar year that registration is first issued.
X-ray / advanced imaging — 3 units.
Radiographic or advanced imaging safety, technique or interpretation. Both technical and diagnostic imaging subjects qualify.
Professional boundaries — 1 unit.
Professional boundaries in the clinical setting specifically — not general ethics.
The remaining 16 units are general chiropractic continuing education from MBCE-approved or PACE-approved sources.
Acupuncture registration. A Doctor of Chiropractic holding an acupuncture registration completes an additional 2 units in approved acupuncture-related topics. Note that dry needling coursework is not accepted toward the acupuncture requirement.
Animal chiropractic registration. Chiropractors certified in animal chiropractic carry an additional 6 units in animal chiropractic. Confirm your own total with the MBCE, since it depends on which registrations you hold.
Minnesota is specific about proof. Only courses that carry an MBCE course number, or a PACE logo on the certificate, will be accepted for continuing education. Continuing education must be obtained from MBCE-approved sponsors or be PACE approved.

This is the most consequential detail on the page, and it is easy to get wrong.
The required CE must be completed before you renew. The Board's guidance is explicit: if your continuing education has not been completed, do not renew until it has — in order to avoid submitting a false application. Legal attestation of completed continuing education is a required part of the renewal application, so renewing early with hours outstanding is not a paperwork slip; it is an attestation problem.
And there is no grace period. If renewal is not completed by December 31, your license expires and you are not authorized to practice until the renewal is completed. Plan the year so your hours land well before the deadline.
Audit. Continuing education is reviewed in the order it is received. Once your CE audit is completed you receive either confirmation or a Deficiency Notice. Failure to have completed approved continuing education — or to provide proof of completion — as discovered on audit will incur significant penalties. Keep your certificates.
Voluntarily Retired status. A licensee in good standing with no continuing education audit deficiency who will no longer actively practice in Minnesota may apply for Voluntarily Retired status: no application fee, no annual renewal fee, and no continuing education requirement. The Board asks that applications be postmarked by December 10 to allow processing before year end.
