Nebraska chiropractors must complete 36 hours of continuing education every 24 months, due August 1 of each even-numbered year, and no more than 6 of those hours may be earned by online self-study — the remaining 30 hours, including 8 mandatory hours (4 in technical skills and 4 in practice issues), must be completed in a live format under the Nebraska DHHS Board of Chiropractic rules at 172 NAC 29. Nebraska runs an auto-approval system: the Board does not pre-approve individual providers or courses, so any CE that relates directly to the practice of chiropractic and meets the mandatory-topic minimums counts. Under 172 NAC 29-006, each Nebraska-licensed chiropractor must complete at least 36 hours of acceptable continuing education during the preceding 24-month period, on or before August 1 of each even-numbered year. One CE hour equals 60 minutes of formal instruction.
The live-versus-online split is the number that governs your planning: a licensee may complete a maximum of 6 hours by self-study (on-demand, pre-recorded, or correspondence courses with a testing mechanism) each 24-month period. That means at least 30 of your 36 hours must be earned live — in person or by live, synchronous, interactive webinar, which Nebraska treats the same as in-person attendance.
Note: A temporary COVID-era allowance (Executive Order 20-10) once permitted all 36 hours online. That emergency order has expired — the 6-hour self-study cap is back in force. Some CE sites still show the old all-online rule; do not rely on it.
Of the 36 hours, at least 8 must cover mandatory topics and must be earned in a live format — self-study is not accepted for these hours. They split into two 4-hour categories:
4 hours — Technical skills.
X-ray physics, quality control, x-ray production, and interpretation of diagnostic imaging; and/or chiropractic adjustive technique (172 NAC 29-006(A)).
4 hours — Practice issues.
One or a combination of the board-enumerated subjects below (172 NAC 29-006(B)).

Nebraska operates on an auto-approval model. Under 172 NAC 29-006, the Board does not approve individual continuing education programs, activities, or providers. A course is acceptable if it relates directly to the practice of chiropractic and meets the mandatory-topic and format rules above.
